Thinking Ahead For Prescriptions
The practice is being subjected to an increase in patients requesting repeat prescriptions within the 2 working days timescale that we operate. This problem is most prevalent when a bank holiday approaches. Patients have to take responsibility for their repeat medication and request their prescription at an appropriate time.
The practice will be more stringent in the way that it operates the repeat prescribing deadlines as the workload is increasing. We need the co-operation of patients to provide an efficient service.
The Practice has three dedicated prescription clerks that will process and deal with repeat prescriptions. This will allow the repeat prescribing process to be run more efficiently.
It is widely recognised as unsafe practice to take repeat prescriptions over the phone. You will be given a repeat request slip at each prescription issue. Please use the slip to order repeat prescriptions. We need a minimum of 48 hours to process these. Please note that this does not include Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.
The only prescriptions that can be issued using this system are the ones currently agreed by you and your doctor and put on the system by the doctor. Acute or 'one off' prescriptions cannot be reissued without you seeing the doctor.
Before the end of the last but one of approved repeat prescriptions your repeat prescription must have the approval renewed by the doctor, they will decide whether you should see a doctor, nurse, health care assistant or whether the prescription can be renewed without any action. You will see an option box on your prescription, which will tell you what is to be done.
Handwritten additions on the slip, prescriptions from out of date slips, or acute prescriptions marked A1/1 and any others such as antibiotics cannot quickly be issued using this system and will delay your whole prescription. Such requests are passed to the doctor. This means that your doctor will make a decision whether it can be issued. Because of the doctors rotas there may be a delay of 3 days or more before a message will be delivered back to the receptionist letting you know the doctors decision. Many of these extras are for things that can actually be bought over the counter and we do encourage patients to do this whenever appropriate. It saves the practice's drug budget for prescriptions, which are essential for other patient's effective treatment.
All practices have to keep within a strict prescribing budget decided by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Aneurin Bevan Health Board, and your help is appreciated with this.

Before you can start ordering prescriptions however you must first register your details with us so that you can be provided with a unique login username and password. Please come to the surgery and complete a registration form.

The practice dispenses for rural patients, during surgery times only. You have to register with us to be able to get your medication direct from us. Ask at reception or our dispensary if in doubt.
We need a minimum of 48 hours (two working days) to process these. Please note that this does not include Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Dispensary opening hours are Monday, Wednesday & Friday 08:00 – 18:00 and Tuesday & Thursday 08:00 - 17:00. Please be aware that if we are short staffed the dispensary may be closed during the lunch period.
The Practice is able to provide private prescriptions and issue medication via our dispensary. When we provide a private prescription for you to take to a pharmacy then there will be a £14 charge.
