A GP Registrar works with the practice from time to time. The Registrar is a fully qualified doctor who is gaining experience as a GP and who at all times provides the same standard of care as the other doctors.

The nursing team, which includes healthcare assistants, offer a comprehensive service that includes screening and the management of chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease. The nursing staff also deals with women's health and cervical cytology. Nurse-led clinics for minor illness management, dermatology, wart treatment and travel vaccinations are also provided.

Our reception staff are fully trained members of the practice team.
They have a difficult job to do ensuring that the practice runs smoothly, emergencies are dealt with promptly and routine problems are seen at a time for all concerned.
If you are kept waiting or seem to be asked one or two irritating questions, they are carrying out the instructions of the doctors with the aim of judging the urgency of your request. Please try and give them as much information as possible it is given in strictest confidence.

Our prescription clerks will process requests for repeat medication for non-dispensing patients.
When you are given a repeat prescription you will have a tear-off receipt on the right hand side. Please use this tear off slip to order your repeats. No handwritten additions please.
Our prescription clerks are available for advice if you have a problem.
Please not it takes two working days to process a repeat prescription request.
Repeat prescriptions can be ordered via the My Health Online website. Please ask reception for more information.

In addition to the normal antenatal clinics which you will be attending, many of you will be eager to learn as much as possible about what to expect during pregnancy and labour.
Both you and your partner are welcome to attend evening classes at the parent craft room at Nevill Hall Hospital on the first Thursday of every month at 7.00pm. Please telephone 732102 to book.
The Community Midwife would also be delighted to welcome you to her Aqua-natal class at Abergavenny Leisure Centre every Friday from 13:45 - 14:45, this is an ideal opportunity to keep fit and meet other mums to be.

There is a grant to help you give your baby a positive start in life. It's called the Sure Start Maternity Grant. Claim form SF100. You can get this form if you or your partner are getting: Income Support, Income based Jobseekers Allowance, Working Families Tax Credit or Disabled Persons Tax Credit.
The community nurses specialise in providing nursing care at home to patients who are disabled and terminally ill.
Community nurses see patients after day-care and other surgery at Nevill Hall Hospital.

The health visitor provides support to the parents of pre-school children and also supports the elderly population. Merenna assists the Primary Health Care Team with child health and where necessary provide domiciliary visits to the homes of the under 5s and the elderly.
Merenna runs the Baby Clinic here at the surgery.
Infants are invited to attend for routine medicals/screening at 6 weeks and 9 months. This is by appointment only.
Between 14:00 and 15:00 parents are welcome to "drop in" whenever necessary for routine advice on the care and development of pre school children.

Clinical Nurse Specialist
A St David’s nurse is attached to the practice. Her role is to provide Specialist Care for people with a cancer diagnosis and other life threatening illnesses within the Abergavenny and surrounding area.
She works alongside the General Practitioner, District nurse and other Health Care professionals. She may be able to help with the following:
Long Term Conditions Nurse
The surgery has the support of a Long Term Condition (LTC) nurse who is employed by Monmouthshire Local Health Board. The aim is to assist in the prevention of frequent hospital admissions for those patients who have certain long term conditions. The LTC nurse works in collaboration with the patients, GP and other Health and Social Care providers.
